Afternoon tea with the Queen

05/06/2026

A group of children and their families supported by Dreams and Wishes spent the afternoon with Her Majesty The Queen at Clarence House for a memorable and special occasion.

The visit brought together six children and their parents for an opportunity to spend time with Her Majesty in the historic surroundings of Clarence House, making memories that will last a lifetime. They took an open carriage down The Mall, before enjoying a tea party and treasure hunt at Clarence House.

Rupert Williams, seven, from Barry, was one of the children who made the journey from Wales. Rupert was diagnosed with intestinal failure and chronic obstruction when he was just three years old and he has been dependant on a life sustaining but high-risk treatment since then.

He had a wonderful day out and even had a bravery badge from the Scouts presented to him by the Queen. He said: “I made a toast and said to the Queen what a happy event it was. It was a great day, and I enjoyed the afternoon tea and the treasure hunt.”

Gemma Davies, from Bridgend, who was there with her son Roman said: “It was a truly wonderful day. See the looks on the childrens’ faces, knowing that they will always treasure these memories.

“They loved the open carriage ride with the police escort, and then when we got to Clarence House it was beautiful. They even had biscuits with their names on them, and each child was given their own letter for the treasure hunt. They were all working together to work out the clues and at one point the Queen helped Roman. She was fabulous with the and really got down to their level.”

Tony Curtis MBE, Chairman of Dreams and Wishes, who presented the Queen with a pink and purple rose (the colours of the charity), said: "It is an incredible honour and privilege for Dreams and Wishes to be invited to Clarence House by Her Majesty The Queen. Our charity exists to create special moments and lasting memories for children living with serious and life-threatening illnesses, and this visit was a truly unforgettable experience for the children and families attending. It was truly magical. We are deeply grateful for Her Majesty's continued support and kindness towards the children and the support she has given our charity over the years."

The children who joined the Queen were: Evie Moran, 10, from Carmarthenshire, Lacey-Lee Kelly, 10; Gracie Power, 11, from Cardiff; Maria Belo, six; Rupert Williams, seven from Barry, Roman Davies, 10, from Bridgend.
