A VIP trip to London

15/12/2025

Seriously ill children and their families had a VIP trip to remember in London as some Christmas magic came early. There were moments of wonder and excitement as Santa came to surprise them during their visit to the State Rooms in Parliament.

Dreams and Wishes took nine children to the House of Commons before a special trip, escorted by soldiers from the Welsh Guards and Queen's Dragoon Guards in full ceremonial outfits and three princesses, to Downing Street and the London Eye.

The group had lunch with Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle, with a very special appearance from Mr Claus who had brought along some wonderful presents for the children who have all had a tough year of hospital visits and stays. Sir Lindsay Hoyle said: "One of the most treasured days in the parliamentary calendar for me is the arrival of the children being cared for by the Dreams and Wishes charity – an invitation that every Speaker has upheld since Bernard Weatherill.

"Seeing the joy in the youngsters’ faces as they meet Father Christmas is very special, but also the happiness it brings their parents, who spend so much time with them in hospital."

The volunteer-led charity provides memorable moments for seriously ill children and their families and the London trip, which is now in its 34th year, is a highlight.

Tony Curtis MBE has organised for the charity to take a group of children receiving treatment to London every one of those years. He said: "Our aim to is always to make memories for families and put smiles on faces during the most difficult of times.

"We are grateful to The Speaker for welcoming us each year for what is a magical trip for children and their families."
