Kathryn Jarman is taking on a 10K and other events in 2026 in support of Dreams & Wishes, in memory of her beautiful daughter Rosie.
She is setting herself a number of challenges throughout the year to raise money for the charity, starting with the Chepstow Running Festival 10K on January 25th.
Kathryn says: "Dreams & Wishes are an incredible charity that we as a family will be forever grateful for. They gave our beautiful daughter Rosie, her sister Molly and us as parents, the most incredible memories and #SmilesOnFaces which we will always cherish.
"When you’re child gets poorly, as a parent you try everything you can possibly do to help them feel better. From a cold paper towel on their forehead to a duvet and cuddles on the sofa. When that illness turns to your child being seriously ill, your World is turned upside down and everything is targeted on how to ensure the best possible treatment and care is given.
"This happened to us with Rosie our 15-year-old daughter, when she was unexpectedly diagnosed with an exceptionally rare cancer. Rosie was a regular, fit and active young lady who loved spending time with her friends and climbing mountains.
"Just a few months before her diagnosis she had climbed four Mountains as part of her Duke of Edinburgh qualifications and was an active member of the RAF cadets. After a couple of months feeling unwell, nausea, vomiting and fatigue she was suddenly diagnosed with a life-threatening tumour inside her heart that needed immediate removal."
After being rushed to Evelina London Children's Hospital for more than seven-and-half hours of major open-heart surgery, Rosie then underwent a gruelling nine months adult grade cancer treatment including chemotherapy and radiation treatment across the UK.
Mum Kathryn says: "A few days after returning home from six weeks intensive proton beam therapy in Manchester, Rosie's diagnosis devastatingly turned to terminal as the tumours had developed in her brain. The ground disappeared from our feet, each micro-second was pin point focused on every aspect of her treatment and care as she came home for palliative care.
"We forgot how to breath. We then had a call from Dreams & Wishes who gave us a chance to catch our breath and create some wonderful memories. Despite being paralysed on one side of her body, Dreams & Wishes ‘popped' Rosie into a wonderful bright yellow Lamborghini and then arranged for her to fly a plane. The effect and impact they have made to us as a family has continued long after our Rosie tragically passed away."
We will be cheering you on and with you all the way on your challenges, Kathryn!
